What image compression means
Compression means producing a smaller file. JPEG and WebP provide adjustable lossy output quality: lower values usually reduce size further, but may also remove detail.
Output quality and file size
Quality describes how much detail the new encoding tries to preserve; it is not a percentage of the original file size. Even at quality 100, JPEG or WebP is re-encoded and may become larger.
Utilsha compares both sizes after processing. It reports reduction and savings only when the generated file is actually smaller.
JPEG, PNG, and WebP
JPEG often suits photographs but does not preserve transparency. WebP supports lossy compression and can retain transparency.
PNG uses lossless compression and has no equivalent quality setting. Converting a JPEG or WebP photograph to PNG can greatly increase its size. When both source and output are PNG, Utilsha preserves the original instead of re-encoding it without a real optimization method.
