Estimate fuel and trip cost

Enter trip distance, vehicle efficiency, and the current fuel price. The calculator estimates fuel needed, total cost, and an optional per-passenger share.

Formulas for L/100 km, km/L, and MPG

For L/100 km, fuel equals distance × consumption ÷ 100. For km/L, divide distance by efficiency. In MPG mode, divide miles by miles per US gallon.

Example and real-world conditions

A 500 km trip at 7 L/100 km requires about 35 liters. Multiply that amount by your entered price; traffic, load, weather, terrain, and driving style can affect actual consumption.

Frequently asked questions

How is trip fuel calculated?

The formula is distance × L/100 km ÷ 100, distance ÷ km/L, or miles ÷ MPG, depending on the selected mode.

What is the difference between L/100 km and km/L?

L/100 km reports liters consumed per 100 kilometers; km/L reports distance traveled on one liter.

Does MPG use an imperial gallon?

No. This version uses miles and US gallons.

Does splitting the cost change the fuel required?

No. It only divides the estimated total cost by the passenger count.
