Publishing and Search Console
The file is commonly published at the root and can be declared in robots.txt or submitted to Search Console. A sitemap helps discovery but does not guarantee indexing or rankings.
Limits and lastmod
A sitemap supports at most 50,000 URLs and also has a standard file-size limit. This version limits input to 50,000 and supports one global lastmod date; larger sites require multiple files and a sitemap index.
