Sentence count and timing are estimates based on 200 words per minute for reading and 130 for speaking.
How to use the word counter
Paste or type text in the field above. Counts update in real time: words, unique words, characters with and without spaces, sentences, paragraphs, lines, and estimated reading and speaking times.
How words and characters are counted
The tool uses browser language segmentation with a Unicode-aware fallback. Repeated spaces do not create extra words, and standalone punctuation is not counted as a word.
Characters include letters, numbers, punctuation, and line breaks. The without-spaces result excludes all whitespace, not just regular spaces.
How paragraphs, sentences, and lines are counted
Each text block separated by one or more blank lines counts as a paragraph. A single line break inside the same block adds a line, not another paragraph.
Sentences are estimated from ending punctuation. Reference speeds are 200 words per minute for reading and 130 for speaking; both times are estimates.

Frequently asked questions
How are words counted?
The counter identifies word-like language segments, so repeated spaces and standalone punctuation do not increase the total.
Does it count characters with spaces?
Yes. It shows one total for all characters and another excluding spaces, tabs, and line breaks.
What are unique words?
This is the number of different words after ignoring uppercase and lowercase differences for the active language.
How are paragraphs counted?
The tool counts content blocks separated by one or more blank lines. A single line break inside a block does not create another paragraph.
Is my text sent to a server?
No. Counting happens in your browser and the content is not sent to Utilsha.
