How this compression works
Utilsha provides local visual compression: it renders each page with the selected preset, encodes it as JPEG, and rebuilds a PDF. It then compares both sizes and only recommends the result when it is actually smaller.
What may be lost
Visual compression can help with heavy scans, photographs, and presentations. Text stops being selectable, and links, forms, layers, vectors, and quality may be lost.
Why some PDFs do not shrink
PDFs containing text and vectors are often very compact. pdf-lib does not provide a general structural optimizer that can safely recompress every stream and image, so Utilsha does not present a fake structural mode. If processing makes the file larger, it recommends keeping the original. Processing happens locally in your browser: the file is not uploaded to Utilsha.
